5th Grade Colonial Days

In 5th grade students study American History and in November they focus on the establishment of the original 13 colonies. The learn the details of how each original colony was founded and why people came to that colony. Students then chose a famous colonists from each colony to research and write a biography on this colonists life, focusing on the early, middle,  then late years of their life. On the last day of school before Thanksgiving break students and teachers came dressed as a person from the Colonial era.  During colonial day they learned to make things like butter, brick, and candles. They learned skills of cross stitch, weaving, and rag dolls. They played games like marbles, 9 men morris, stick and ring game, jacks, and card houses. The kids had such a fun time bringing what they had studied to life.
