Iron Springs Elementary honored former educator and dear friend, Chari Hensler who passed away from cancer in 2021 at their monthly IRON assembly. A mural was created at Iron Springs Elementary to illustrate important characteristics that she embodied which help students empower themselves and others around them. Principal Nathan Jenkins started the event by sharing how kindness and respect help us to build relationships of friendship, and that good friends help us to go through the fields and mountains of life where the sun will rise and shine once again.
Students were also taught the importance of receiving the compliments given to them and how that builds respect within ourselves by Ms. Emily Pereira, a teacher at Iron Springs Elementary and friend of the late Chari Hensler. Ms. Pereira shared how Chari taught her to accept compliments by hearing them, catching them, placing them in your heart and saying thank you.
Chari Hensler's family and the mural artist, Baylee Weiner, were recognized at the end of the assembly and gifted a framed digital rendering of the mural.
